When building college lists, it is important that we take into consideration fit as IECs. Fit refers to social, academic, and financial fit. For students of color, fit also refers to whether the college campus will be affirming. Students of color need to go to schools that they can see themselves represented at, where the faculty support their dreams, and where the campus culture is going to make their college experience as safe as possible. We understand, however, that despite best intentions, not all IECs feel equipped to understand the lived experiences of their students of color and may not have previously looked at racial equity on college campus visits. We want to help you make sure that the list you are building is equitable to best serve your students.
In our list review, we will:
College Equity First, Inc. is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization. All proceeds from this service go toward furthering our mission to increase the information students of color have nationwide on equitable college campuses and increase the awareness colleges have on making their campuses more welcoming and affirming to all students. Specifically, finances go toward paying for proprietary raw educational data, staffing for research, marketing, and data collection, and software and website development costs.
